Nymphaea ‘Charlene Strawn’ Hardy Waterlily displays a 4-8″ star shaped, yellow flower with long, tall stamens and medium dark green leaves with marbling when young. The flower stands 4-6″ above the water in medium depth water and has a lemony fragrance. Charlene Strawn is an excellent bloomer, spreads 3-8′ in 6 in. to 8 ft. of water, is more adaptable than many, and is shade tolerant.
Notes from Turtle Island Mike’s LilyPad
This is a highly adaptable plant, perfect for any size water garden. In my ponds in West Virginia, it’s a late bloomer and sometimes doesn’t bloom until July. But at our nursery in North Florida, Zone 8b, it was the first to bloom.
